JERSEY CITY, N.J.—Nov. 13, 2020 — BlockFi Inc., a financial services company dedicated to building a bridge between cryptocurrencies and traditional financial and wealth management products, has entered into a multifaceted partnership with NRG Esports, an award-winning professional esports organization. The partnership will highlight the benefits of cryptocurrency adoption to members of the video gaming community and include sponsorships, multimedia presentations, and the launch of an exclusive gaming tournament.
As part of the initial stages of the engagement, five of NRG’s top players will join BlockFi in creating custom educational videos and live stream segments demonstrating BlockFi products.
In addition, BlockFi is currently in the process of launching an exclusive gaming tournament, in which participants who wish to compete against NRG professionals will be required to register with a BlockFi Interest Account (BIA) (note: tournament will not be available for New York residents). Details on the tournament will be forthcoming through the remainder of 2020.
“We believe this partnership will bring together two communities that have so much in common,” said Zac Prince, Founder and CEO of BlockFi. “Cryptocurrency adopters and gaming enthusiasts tend to share similar demographic qualities, such as being ‘digital natives’ and growing up participating in online communities. NRG professionals are the perfect influencers to highlight the benefits of cryptocurrencies and how BlockFi is bringing this asset class to the masses.”
“We’re very excited to launch this brand new partnership with BlockFi,” said Brett Lautenbach President of NRG. “There’s an incredible crossover between the gaming and cryptocurrency communities and bringing BlockFi’s story and product to our fanbase is something we can’t wait to do together!”
“I’m a big believer in the potential of cryptocurrencies to transform how we think about money and investing,” said Garrett Gordon, an NRG team member, champion Rocket League player and holder of digital assets. “More and more people are taking esports seriously, and they’re not paying with cash as we used to think of it.”
“If you’re already a gamer, chances are you may have the skillset at your fingertips to succeed in the cryptocurrency community, too” said Shayne Mullen, VP for Business Development and Partnerships at BlockFi. “We’re excited to team with NRG and we’re confident their audience will quickly adapt to being the next growing generation of crypto investors.”
